Earlier this May, sixteen of The Willow School’s 3rd–7th grade students proudly represented our community at the 2025 Lovelace + InteGIRLS Spring Math Competition at Rutgers University. With over 500 participants from across the NJ/NY region, this incredible event is now the largest math competition for female and nonbinary students in the world—and our Willow mathematicians made their mark!
Students participated in two rounds: individual and group problem-solving, pushing them to think critically, communicate effectively, and apply creative strategies to complex math problems. Our students rose to the occasion, demonstrating not only strong math skills but also the kind of collaborative spirit and perseverance that make Willow learners stand out.
In the weeks leading up to the event, students committed to after-school preparation sessions, practicing problem-solving techniques, brushing up on math concepts, and strengthening their teamwork. Their hard work paid off—10 out of 16 Willow students ranked in the top 30 of their category, with several earning individual awards. One student placed in the Top 10 Individual Winners for Grade 5, and another received the Lovelace Math Award for her preparation. Two Willow teams also placed: 16th out of 56 in the 3rd–5th grade competition, and 19th out of 63 in the 6th–8th grade competition.
Beyond scores and awards, the Lovelace + InteGIRLS competition offered our students an opportunity to be part of a larger movement: one that celebrates diversity in STEM and empowers young minds to engage with math in a meaningful and inclusive environment.
We are proud of our students for their dedication, enthusiasm, and courage to take on this challenge. Congratulations to all who participated—you represented Willow with brilliance and heart!
