Rain or shine, Willow students go outside!

Willow’s 34-acre wooded campus is the ideal environment for imagination to grow and develop. With recess twice a day, children play, explore, and learn to get along with one another. Outdoor time helps children develop a healthy, happy, balanced life.

And play is much more than just down time! Ample recess time is another way that Willow lives its commitment to student-led, social-emotional, and play-based learning. It provides the time and space for students to collaborate, compromise, and build essential social skills. Recess contributes to executive functioning competence, fosters a sense of independence, and teaches a healthy attitude towards risk.

Recess gives students the opportunity to dig deeper into topics that interest them. If you visit Willow during recess, you may see students identifying bugs they are studying, working as a team to construct impressive forts, pretending they are on an archaeological dig…or just playing games and having fun.
